日本の某商社は、90年代初めに「公用語英語化」を宣言し、結構マスコミにも載ったが、実際に英語化された話はとんと聞くことがなかった。当時その会社にいた方いわく、

「壁に『わが社の公用語は英語』と日本語で貼ってあった」

そうです。

三菱商事じゃないですよ。

なんといっても、三菱商事は当時やっと日本語になったのだ。会話ではなく文書ですが、「漢文から和文」になったのです。

「御承認賜度御検討願度」

というのが社内伺いの最後の決まり文句だった。（和訳＝「承認して欲しいので、検討してください」）。社内のワープロで「ごし」と打つと、この10漢字に変換される見事さであった。

さらに、

「為念」（和訳：「念のため」）

みたいな、レ点が必要チックな接続詞もいっぱいあった気がする。その一方で、

「ドント・ヘジテイトでカム・トゥー・マイ・ルームね」

などというなぞの発言をする人たちもいる楽しい会社でした。
